one of the things i know (from constantly being reminded) is how much I don't know about the various creative endeavors in which I'm engaged. so, if for no other reason than to educate myself, I'd like this to be a place where people who do know can answer questions about publishing, self publishing, drawing, film making, financing, editing, writing, marketing and anything else that relates.
people are always asking these questions and, too often, I don't know the answers.
but lots of my pals do and that means you, whoever you are. You know something I don't.
I need to know it and so do others.
So share.
Ultimately the most popular themes will generate their own folders/threads and, hopefully, we all can improve our lot.
Share anything that's legal to share.

Basically, I'm thinking about different ways that we as black comic creators can find an audience and get publicity, specifically outside of the mainstream. For example, has anyone tried marketing to black barbershops or beauty salons, either locally or nationally? Are there hip-hop websites or publications that cover comics? What non-comic websites are there that may be responsive to doing coverage on comics?
Also, is anyone aware of specific comic retailers that have large number of black customers? What about traditional booksellers who might carry either floppies or trade paperbacks?
If the mainstream comic industry is not working better for us, how do we create a system outside the mainstream that serves us as creators, as well as out potential audience?

I know that Erika Alexander and Tony Puryear have had good success with radio shows, haling their book, CONCRETE PARK. It's an overlooked means of getting the word out that reaches of millions of ears a day. Let's move this convo to the innovation section.
